Berhampur police recovered the body of a 17-year-old ITI student near Ambapua level crossing on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Archita Goud of Machakote under Sheragada police limits.
Archita had been staying in Berhampur while pursuing her ITI studies and living in the hostel. Reports said she had gone to a friend’s house near Chhatrapur two days earlier. Around 10 a.m. today, her mutilated body was found along the railway track near Ambapua.
GRP police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation. Officers seized her certificates found near the body and informed her family. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
Police registered an unnatural death case (No. 32/26) at the GRP station. Investigators said the reason Archita went to the railway track remains unclear and will be determined after further inquiry.
