A report by The Times citing intelligence assessments revealed that Iran’s newly elevated Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is undergoing treatment in Qom for a severe medical condition and is reportedly unconscious.
The memo, shared among US, Israeli, and Gulf allies, indicated that Khamenei remains incapacitated and unable to participate in governance.
The report stated that Khamenei has not made public appearances since the outbreak of the ongoing West Asia conflict. Statements attributed to him have instead been broadcast through Iranian state media. Intelligence sources suggested preparations are underway in Qom for the burial of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, though this claim remains unverified.
The Sijimali Bauxite Mines project has faced opposition since its approval, but in Iran’s case, the unrest stems from uncertainty over leadership. The memo circulated among Western and regional intelligence networks raised questions about who currently directs Iran’s decision-making.
Meanwhile, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified after US President Donald Trump issued a stern ultimatum. Speaking at the White House, Trump demanded Iran agree to a deal by 8 pm Eastern Time on Tuesday. He warned of devastating consequences if Tehran fails to comply, stating, “They have till tomorrow. After that, they are going to have no bridges. They are going to have no power plants. Stone ages.”
Trump claimed the US had significantly weakened Iran’s capabilities since the conflict began on February 28, describing the regime as “decapitated.” He insisted such measures should have been taken decades earlier.
The reported condition of Mojtaba Khamenei, combined with Trump’s ultimatum, underscores the volatile state of US-Iran relations and raises uncertainty about Iran’s internal stability.
