The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced a significant welfare measure for migrant labourers.
The daily supply of 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders in each state has been doubled, ensuring wider access to cooking fuel for vulnerable communities.
According to the directive issued by Secretary Dr Neeraj Mittal, the enhanced supply will remain under the control of state governments and their Food and Civil Supplies Departments. The cylinders will be distributed exclusively to migrant labourers with the assistance of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
Officials clarified that the decision was based on average daily supply figures recorded between March 2 and March 3, 2026. The move goes beyond the earlier 20% limit set in a previous communication dated March 21, 2026.
The Ministry emphasised that this step aims to strengthen welfare support for migrant workers, who often face challenges in accessing essential resources. By doubling the supply, the government seeks to ensure that no labourer is left without cooking fuel during critical times.
State administrations have been instructed to coordinate closely with OMCs to streamline distribution and prevent misuse. The directive highlights the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of migrant communities through targeted interventions.
