Inter-District Ganja Smugglers Nabbed In Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A four-member gang of inter-district ganja smugglers was apprehended by Bhadrak Rural Police while they were transporting cannabis in a car in the dead of night.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted them near ITI, Charampa Canal Road, and seized 10 kgs of Ganja and several other incriminating articles from the car on Wednesday night.

Police said that the car was coming from Berhampur to Bhadrak with the contraband consignment. The car, 10 kg of Ganja, one sword, three knives, one toy pistol, one mobile phone, and other incriminating article were seized in this connection corresponding to Bhadrak Rural  PS case (244/21) U/S 20(b)(ii)(B)/29 of NDPS Act rws 27/28 Arms Act and investigation is under progress.

The identities of the supplier have been ascertained and they will be nabbed soon, the police added.

The accused persons were identified as Sadasiba Bhola (28) of Charbatia in Cuttack’s Choudwar, Ghunda alias Laxmidhara Sethi (42) of Padmapur in Ganjeibadi, Alok Samal (29) of Saragadia, Litu alias Manas Mohanty (29) of Saragadia under Sabaranga PS in Bhadrak District.

The four accused persons, three from Bhadrak and one driver from Cuttack, were arrested and produced before Special Court, Bhadrak. Further investigation is underway, the police said.

According to police reports, Ghunda, who is on bail, is accused of a triple-murder case of Ganjeibadi in the year 1999. His other associates were awarded death sentence by the trial court which was commuted to life imprisonment by Orissa High Court and they are now in jail. He is also involved in many coal theft cases and attempt to murder cases.
