Bhanjanagar police arrested four members of a Sindhi theft gang involved in a series of burglaries across Ganjam district.

The operation led to the recovery of 66 grams of stolen gold ornaments and over 2.5 kilograms of silver jewellery.

The gang had been carrying out thefts in multiple police station areas under the Bhanjanagar subdivision, including Tarasingi, Balipadar, Buguda, and Jagannathprasad. Acting on the instructions of Ganjam SP, Bhanjanagar IIC Jibanananda Jena formed a special team comprising officers from nearby stations. The team launched coordinated raids and successfully apprehended the suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as A. Putu Raju and A. Nagaraju from Nuasahapur village under Kotinada police limits, Jitu Nahak from Jenapur under Kabisuryanagar police limits, and M. Munna from Pakalapalli under Asika police limits.

Police said the gang had committed more than seven thefts in the region. On June 17 night, the accused broke into the house of Sushil Kumar Panda in Bada Tulasi Palli village under Bhanjanagar police limits and stole gold and silver ornaments. Panda lodged a written complaint, prompting the police to begin an intensive investigation.

During a press briefing on Saturday, Bhanjanagar SDPO Deepak Kumar Mishra confirmed the arrests and recovery. IIC Jeevanananda Jena and SI Sameer Kumar Sethi were also present. Officials said further investigation is underway to trace other members of the gang and recover additional stolen property.
