New Delhi: Hockey India has announced an 18-member squad for the esteemed Asian Champions Trophy, set to commence in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, China from September 8 to September 17, 2024.
The event will feature Asia’s elite hockey nations—India, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, and host nation China—competing for the title.
India, the reigning champions, will be captained by the skilled drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh, with the seasoned midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad serving as Vice-Captain.
The team includes goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera, while defenders Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Harmanpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay, and Sumit will fortify the backline.
The midfield will be composed of Raj Kumar Pal, Nilakanta Sharma, Manpreet Singh, and Mohd. Raheel, complemented by a youthful forward line spearheaded by Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, Araijeet Singh Hundal, Uttam Singh, and newcomer Gurjot Singh.
This squad, blending seasoned players and fresh talent, includes ten athletes from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games bronze-winning team, while five—including Hardik Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Shamsher Singh, and Gurjant Singh—are being rested.
