The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced revised squads for the upcoming ODI series against England and the T20I series against Zimbabwe after fast bowler Harshit Rana and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy were ruled out with hamstring injuries.
Prince Yadav has been named as Harshit Rana’s replacement in the ODI squad, while Ravi Bishnoi replaces Varun Chakaravarthy in the T20I squad.
Harshit Rana Suffers Grade 1 Hamstring Injury
According to the BCCI, Harshit Rana experienced discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge.
Medical scans confirmed a Grade 1 hamstring injury, ruling him out of the three-match ODI series against England.
The young pacer will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for further assessment and rehabilitation.
Varun Chakaravarthy Ruled Out of Zimbabwe Series
Varun Chakaravarthy also sustained a hamstring injury during the third T20I against England.
An MRI scan revealed a Grade 2 injury to his left hamstring, and following medical advice, the mystery spinner has been ruled out of the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
He will also undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi Named Replacements
The BCCI has drafted in Prince Yadav for the ODI series against England, while experienced leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi returns to India’s T20I squad for the Zimbabwe tour.
Both replacements were approved after the medical team confirmed the injuries to Rana and Chakaravarthy.
India Begin Preparations for England ODIs
Senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav have already begun training in Birmingham ahead of the ODI series.
India will take on England in the opening ODI on July 14, with the series serving as an important opportunity to bounce back after disappointing T20I results against Ireland and England.
The Indian team has faced increased scrutiny following consecutive T20I series defeats, including a 0-4 loss to England, which also saw India relinquish the No. 1 ICC T20I ranking.
