The Centre has convened an all‑party meeting on July 19, a day before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins, to outline its legislative agenda and hear concerns from opposition parties.

The customary meeting will start at 11 am, officials confirmed.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier announced that the Monsoon Session will run from July 20 to August 13, 2026, following President Droupadi Murmu’s approval. Rijiju said the session will provide “meaningful debate, discussion and decisions on issues of national importance.”

Government’s Agenda: The government is expected to push several key Bills during the session, including those tied to constitutional reforms and governance. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the controversial 130th Constitution Amendment Bill is set to adopt its report on July 17, which will be tabled in Parliament. The Bill proposes automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers if they remain in judicial custody for 30 consecutive days in serious offence cases.

Opposition’s Strategy: Opposition parties are preparing to corner the government over the NEET‑UG paper leak scandal, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks on casualties during Operation Sindoor, and other governance issues. Congress has already moved a breach of privilege notice against Singh.

Political Realignments: The session is expected to be turbulent amid shifting alliances. Reports suggest 20 Trinamool Congress MPs have merged with the National Citizens Party of India, while three TMC Rajya Sabha MPs resigned to join the BJP. The Shiv Sena (UBT) lost six Lok Sabha MPs to the Shinde faction, and seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs also crossed over to the BJP.

With legislative priorities and opposition challenges converging, the July 19 meeting is likely to set the tone for one of the most contentious sessions in recent years.
