A shocking incident unfolded near Rasulgarh traffic point on Wednesday morning when police rescued a half‑burnt youth and rushed him to hospital in critical condition.
The victim has been identified as Mangu Dakua, a native of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, who had been living in Tarini Basti, Bhubaneswar, and working at a local salon.
According to preliminary police information, the youth’s clothes caught fire suddenly outside a shop in Kochilei Haat area. Witnesses said he was seen running in flames before locals tried to help and alerted police. Officers reached the spot quickly, rescued him, and shifted him first to Capital Hospital and later to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
Eyewitnesses noted that Dakua had not reported to work at the salon for the past three days. Police have begun an investigation, questioning local traders to determine how the fire started and whether foul play was involved.
Doctors said his condition remains critical, and further updates will depend on his response to treatment.
