Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Chavan submitted his resignation as an MLA to the Legislative Assembly Speaker on Monday.
Chavan met with Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar in Mumbai on Monday to tender his resignation.
“I hereby submit my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with effect from 12/02/2024 noon,” Chavan stated in his resignation letter.
Ashok Chavan, son of former state chief minister Shankarrao Chavan represented his hometown and stronghold – Nanded – in the Lok Sabha between 2014 and 2019. In the 2014 polls, he was among the only two Congress leaders to win a seat in Maharashtra. He was made Congress state president in 2015. In 2019, however, he lost Nanded to BJP.
