Odisha Vigilance secured the conviction of Sarat Chandra Nanda, former Development Clerk-cum-Store In-Charge of Champua Block in Keonjhar district, for misappropriating government funds.
On May 26, 2026, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar, sentenced Nanda to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. The court found him guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 409, 468, and 471 of the IPC.
Investigators revealed that Nanda manipulated cement stock and issue registers of Champua Block during 2004–2006, diverting government materials and funds for personal gain. Odisha Vigilance had filed a charge sheet after uncovering irregularities in stock records and financial transactions.
Following the conviction, Vigilance officials confirmed that they will move the competent authority to stop Nanda’s pension benefits. The judgment marks another success in the state’s ongoing drive against corruption in public offices.
Officials stated that the case demonstrates Vigilance’s commitment to ensuring accountability among government employees and protecting public resources. The conviction adds to a growing list of successful prosecutions under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
