A tragic accident in Sambalpur claimed the lives of a father and his minor daughter late Wednesday night.
A speeding cement mixer truck rammed into an EV auto-rickshaw near Jhankar Bandh under Dhanupali police limits, leaving both critically injured.
The victims were identified as Surendra Behera, an auto-rickshaw driver from Dhanupali, and his daughter Shubhashree Behera. Locals rescued them and rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors declared Shubhashree dead on arrival. Surendra was later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla. Family members alleged that no doctor was available in the emergency department. He was then taken to a private hospital in Burla, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
The driver of the cement mixer truck fled immediately after the collision. Police launched an investigation and began efforts to trace the absconding driver.
