Lingaraj Police Station have arrested Rabinarayan Das (40), a resident of Kendrapara district, who allegedly impersonated a senior IAS officer of the Odisha government to cheat a complainant of Rs 20 lakh by promising a high-ranking job in the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).
According to the police, the case (Shree Lingaraj P.S. Case No. 109/2026) was registered on April 11, 2026, on the written complaint of Manoranjan Pradhan. Investigation revealed that Rabinarayan Das, along with co-accused Manoj Kumar Lenka, introduced himself as a promoted IAS officer and lured the complainant with the prospect of securing the post of Deputy General Manager in OMC.
Believing the false promise, the complainant allegedly transferred a total of Rs 20 lakh through online transfers and cash payments at different times. The accused later handed over fake appointment and interview letters purportedly issued by OMC. Upon verification, these documents were found to be forged.
During the probe, police examined bank transaction details, records, and other evidence, which confirmed the elaborate fraud. Acting on credible information, a police team raided the Konnagar area in Hooghly district, West Bengal, and arrested Rabinarayan Das from the residence of one Samir Chakraborty.
Rabinarayan Das, son of Basanta Kumar Das and originally from Tikanpur/Pahana in Kendrapara, was found to have a previous criminal record. He was earlier involved in a similar job-related cheating case at Lingaraj Police Station and a cyber fraud case at Jajpur Cyber Police Station.
Police seized his mobile handset, bank transaction records, and related documents from his possession. He has been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the co-accused and recover the defrauded amount.
