New Delhi: Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 79 against England in the second T20I at Derby helped India Women’s cricket team to level series.
Chasing 143 to win, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 29 off 22. England had fought back from 54/5 in the 10th over to post a total of 142/6. But Mandhana scored a 36-ball fifty to help the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side gun down the target in the 17th over only.
Mandhana stitched a 55-run opening stand with Shafali Verma (20) before the latter fell to Sophie Ecclestone at the end of the powerplay. Dayalan Hemalatha (9) was the next Indian batter to fall but Captain Harmanpreet (29*) joined hands with Mandhana and made sure that her team romped home without losing any other wicket.
