New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira in an alleged money laundering case involving coal smuggling.

Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned to join the investigation on September 6 whereas his wife Rujira has been asked by the ED to appear on September 3 by the financial probe agency.

Abhishek Banerjee’s lawyer Sanjay Basu has been summoned to appear on September 3. Two senior police officials, Shyam Singh (DIG Midnapore Range) and Gyanwant Singh (ADG CID), have also been summoned for September 8 and September 9, respectively.

The ED’s money laundering probe is based on a CBI First Information Report (FIR) registered in November 2020 over alleged mass coal pilferage in Eastern Coalfields Ltd mines in Kunustoria and Kajora in West Bengal.
