In a significant boost to Odisha’s ambitious drive for error-free electoral rolls, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti will begin a two-day visit to the state starting tomorrow.
The visit comes at a crucial juncture when the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists has achieved remarkable progress — 99.14% of enumeration forms have been distributed to voters across the state, and digitisation has crossed 42.86%.
According to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, as of 6 PM on June 15, as many as 3,31,13,184 enumeration forms have been delivered to voters. Meanwhile, 1,43,16,229 voter records — equivalent to 42.86% — have already been digitised.
Dy Commissioner Bharti will hold a high-level review meeting in Bhubaneswar on June 16, where he will interact with all District Collectors and District Election Registration Officers to assess the ground situation, identify bottlenecks, and issue necessary directions. On June 17, he will travel to the Ganjam district for a field-level assessment of the ongoing revision work.
The Election Commission has set an ambitious target to complete the entire process of form distribution, collection, and digitisation by June 28, 2026. Once finalised, the exercise will lead to the removal of the names of deceased and shifted voters, paving the way for a fresh, accurate, and transparent voter list.
Speaking on the progress, officials described the ongoing exercise as a “war-footing” campaign. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits, and the administration has urged every eligible voter to submit their filled-out enumeration forms at the earliest.
“Voters who do not submit their forms within the stipulated time will be subject to verification and further action as per rules,” the Chief Electoral Officer’s office cautioned in a statement.
The Special Intensive Revision is seen as a game-changer in Odisha’s electoral preparedness. By combining massive field outreach with rapid digitisation, the Commission aims to create what officials call “a completely error-free final voter list” ahead of future elections.
Bharti’s visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the drive and ensure that no district is left behind in meeting the tight deadline.
