In a decisive step towards transforming sports governance in India, the Union Government has constituted a prestigious Search-cum-Selection Committee for the National Sports Board under the newly enacted National Sports Governance Act, 2025.
The five-member committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Dr T.V. Somanathan, brings together top administrative expertise and legendary sporting voices to recommend the Chairperson and two Members of the National Sports Board. This Board will serve as the apex body responsible for granting official recognition to National Sports Federations and enforcing robust standards of governance, financial discipline, and ethical conduct across Indian sports.
Joining Dr Somanathan as members are:
- Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports)
- Lt General (Retd) Harpal Singh, representing the Indian Olympic Association
- Renowned Olympic shooter and National Sports Awardee Gagan Narang
- Distinguished weightlifter and National Sports Awardee N. Kunjurani Devi
The committee’s mandate is clear: identify individuals of exceptional ability, integrity, and proven experience in public administration, sports governance, law, and related domains to lead the National Sports Board.
