Jharsuguda: A 24-year-old youth climbed atop a 50-ft tall mobile tower in an inebriated condition at Ekatali village in Jharsuduga district on Wednesday. Videos of this incident went viral.
He was later rescued by a team of district fire and emergency team using a hydraulic platform and handed over to the police.
The incident took place this afternoon after the youth, identified as Santosh Patel, had a verbal altercation with his parents and came out from home in a fit of rage.
Suddenly, he created panic in the area by climbing atop the mobile phone tower. He started climbing the tower and reached almost halfway when the locals noticed him.
They shouted to call him back but Santosh continued to climb the tower. After reaching the top of the tower he started shouting.
On being alerted by the locals, a response team reached the spot and placed a hydraulic platform to bring him down. Later, he made a condition that he will come down after getting Rs 5,000. After three hours of ordeal, the fire service personnel brought Patel down after giving him the money.
Later, he was detained at the local police station and went through interrogation regarding his nuisance.
A huge crowd gathered to witness the high drama. Scores of people recorded the incident on their mobile phones. Within a short time, videos of the incident went viral on social media.
