The Balasore Forest Department arrested a doctor on Friday who was working at the Udala government hospital in Mayurbhanj district for his alleged involvement in tiger skin smuggling.
The doctor, identified as Dr. Maheshwar Das, is accused of playing a key role in wildlife contraband smuggling.
After finding clues that the doctor had financial transactions with the arrested accused persons, the Chandipur Forest Department arrested him following interrogation and forwarded him to the court today.
Some other people are suspected to be involved in this racket and further investigation is underway. The Forest Department has found some clues about the racket’s presence in Bhadrak, Soro, Basudevpur, Kaptipada, and Udala.
On 23rd Dec, 11 accused were arrested from the Soro area with the seizure of tiger skin and guns.
