A speeding ten-wheeler truck rammed into another vehicle from behind near Jiridamali bypass on National Highway-53 under Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal district late Thursday night, killing the driver.
Both trucks had returned from unloading coal in Jajpur and were heading toward Talcher. The trailing truck collided with the one ahead under unclear circumstances, causing severe damage to its front cabin.
The impact mangled the cabin, trapping the driver inside. Locals and emergency responders rushed to the spot and cut open the wreckage to rescue him. He was taken to Kamakhyanagar hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police reached the accident site and began investigating the cause of the collision. The identity of the deceased driver had not been established at the time of reporting.
