A Panchayat Executive Officer faced a violent attack in Bonda Ghati of Malkangiri district while inspecting housing construction under the PM Jan Man Yojana scheme.
PEO Bijay Panda visited Dantipada village to check the progress of the housing project. After completing the inspection, he was returning when a group of youths confronted him. Panda said they attacked him with a knife, injuring his back and leg.
Despite the assault, Panda managed to escape and reached Mudulipada police station, where he lodged a written complaint. Police confirmed they have started investigating the incident.
The officer’s account revealed that the attackers were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The sudden violence shocked the local community, raising concerns about the safety of officials during field inspections.
Mudulipada police assured that they are probing the case and will take strict action against those involved.
