Bhubaneswar: BJD’s rebel candidate Rajendra Das contesting the Dhamnagar bypoll was allotted ‘floating Boat’ as his election symbol for the ensuing poll. The Election Commission allotted the symbol while announcing the final list of candidates today on the last date of withdrawal of candidature.

Being a party insider, Rajendra is fighting against the official candidate of BJD. Interestingly, the regional party neither initiate any disciplinary action against him not pressurized him to opt out of the race.

Meanwhile, Rajendra Das on Monday released his star campaigners’ list in an innovative style that includes “parents, senior citizens, grandparents, poor people, daily wagers, farmers, general public and brothers-sisters of the constituency.”

Rajendra said “My star campaigners are all-in-all for me.”

At a press meet, chief electoral officer Susil Lohani informed that all the five candidates will contest the bypoll as nobody withdrew their paper on the last day.

The five candidates whose nomination papers remained valid are Abanti Das (BJD), Baba Harekrushna Sethi (Congress), Suryabansi Suraj (BJP), Pabitra Mohan Das (Independent) and Rajendra Das(Independent), Lohani said.
