Dasmantpur IIC, ASI Land In Vigilance Net After Caught Taking Bribe

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday apprehended Chandrabhanu Mohanty, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) and Dipti Hira, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district while taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a person to help him in a case.

According to Vigilance, IIC Chandrabhanu Mohanty and ASI Dipti Hira of Dasmantpur Police Station were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.8,000/- (Rupees Eight Thousand) from a person to help him in a case registered in Dasmantpur Police Station, of which ASI Hira was the Investigating Officer.

The overall demand was Rs.13,000, of which they had taken Rs.5,000 on 24.07.2023. Today, they were nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance while taking the remaining bribe amount of Rs.8,000.

Based on a complaint, a trap was laid on Friday and the police personnel were apprehended while taking the bribe. As per the direction of IIC Mohanty, ASI Hira received the bribe amount from the complainant.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of ASI Hira and seized in the presence of witnesses. Both hands wash of ASI Hira gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by her, the Vigilance said.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the Govt. residential quarter of IIC Mohanty at Dasmantpur PS premises, his rented house at Jeypore, Koraput and office chamber as well as Govt. quarter of ASI Hira, at Damantpur PS premises, in-law’s house at Boinda, PS-Handapa, Dist-Angul and her office room respectively.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS Case No.24 dated 27.07.2023 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
