Cyclone Yaas: Jail Authorities Asked To Take Care Of Possible Eventualities

Bhubaneswar: In view of the impending Cyclone Yaas, all Jail Superintendents of coastal areas including jails coming under Baripada, Berhampur, Cuttack circles have been asked to take suitable measures for ensuring uninterrupted power supply through Generators and to stockpile rations for the prisoners for at least one week period.

The authorities have been urged to take immediate steps in view of shut down on 22th and 23rd May, read a press note from the State Prisons Headquarters.

Senior Superintendents and Range DIGs have been asked to monitor development of the jails and to keep medical staff of the jails in full preparedness to take care of any eventualities. All Jail Superintendents have been instructed to ensure no congregation near Canteen and dining places inside jails in view of Covid pandemic.

Superintendents should remain in constant liaison with local Sub-Collectors, Fire Officers, Electricity Authorities, and Water Supply Authorities.

Besides, the BMC authorities have been contacted for sending RRT team daily to Jharapada jail to look after Covid positive prisoners. BMC authorities have assured of all help as per protocol. Critically serious Covid prisoners will be dealt as per Health Department protocol. Superintendent, Bhubaneswar has been asked to liaise regularly with BMC, District Administration and CDMO.

To tackle the Covid pandemic situation, the OMC has sanctioned six ambulances for jails to be used for the healthcare of prisoners. Steps are being taken for early procurement of same observing formalities, the press note further read.
