A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable, who sustained critical injuries in a landmine explosion during an anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s Saranda Forest, succumbed to his injuries early Saturday at Apollo Hospital, Rourkela.
The deceased, identified as Head Constable Mahendra Laskar, was part of a joint operation by the CRPF. The district police aimed at dismantling Maoist hideouts and recovering hidden improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to reports, the blast occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Babudera area of Saranda Forest, a region known for frequent Naxal activity. Laskar, along with CRPF Inspector K.K. Mishra and Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkrishna Gagrai, sustained injuries in the explosion. They were immediately evacuated to Rourkela for medical treatment.
Despite intensive care, Laskar’s condition deteriorated, and he was declared dead around 4 am on Saturday, officials confirmed.
