Justice Satrughana Pujahari formally assumed charge as Chairperson of the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on March 30, 2026.
This marks his second term in the role, reflecting confidence in his leadership and dedication to safeguarding human rights in the state.
Justice Pujahari, a seasoned judicial officer, previously served as a Judge of the Orissa High Court and held several key positions in the judiciary and government. His earlier tenure as OHRC Chairperson, beginning in February 2023, was noted for proactive measures to address human rights concerns and strengthen institutional responsiveness.
During his first term, the Commission launched initiatives to improve access to justice, raise awareness of human rights issues, and ensure timely intervention for vulnerable communities. His reappointment is expected to provide continuity and momentum to these efforts.
On taking charge, Justice Pujahari emphasised his vision for a responsive and accessible Commission. He said the OHRC will focus on timely grievance redressal, awareness campaigns, and safeguarding the interests of marginalised groups through fairness and transparency.
