A cotton-laden truck overturned at the hazardous Bada Banka Ghat on National Highway 326 under the Baipariguda police limits, injuring the driver.
The injured driver has been identified as Ramachandran, who suffered injuries to his left arm and leg after the truck lost its brakes on a steep downhill curve.
The accident occurred around 5 AM on Wednesday while the vehicle (TN 52 H 1831) was transporting cotton from Titilagarh to Tamil Nadu.
According to Ramachandran, the truck suffered a sudden brake failure while negotiating a steep downhill stretch on the ghat road, causing him to lose control and leading the vehicle to overturn.
Residents rushed to the scene immediately to rescue the trapped driver and transported him to the Baipariguda Medical facility for treatment.
Frequent accidents on the hazardous Bada Banka Ghat stretch have turned it into a high-risk accident zone. Frustrated by recurring mishaps, residents have demanded that the National Highways Authority take immediate safety measures and strengthen road-safety infrastructure along the steep incline to prevent future disasters.
