The Odisha Fire and Emergency Services Department successfully concluded its month-long special drive, “Surakshita Odisha, Bikasita Odisha,” launched on Sept 15.
Aimed at transforming Odisha into a safe and developed state by 2036, the initiative focused on stringent fire safety compliance across high-rise residential complexes, educational institutions, commercial centres, hospitals, and industrial hubs.
During the extensive drive, officials inspected 4,605 establishments statewide to verify fire safety norms, valid licenses, and compliance standards. Following the checks, 3,404 establishments were served notices due to inadequate safety measures or documentation flaws.
Additionally, around 200 establishments received special notices for violating approved building plans, with legal actions currently underway.
To modernise fire management and response mechanisms, the department is introducing a dedicated mobile application allowing citizens to check the fire safety certificate status of public venues such as malls, hotels, and hospitals.
Furthermore, a 3D mapping database detailing building entry/exit points, water sources, and firefighting equipment is being created to expedite emergency rescue operations.
To ensure transparency and facilitate business operations, a 24/7 Control Room has been operationalised at the Command Centre in Bhubaneswar. Citizens and business owners can seek assistance regarding Fire Safety Certificates or NOCs via WhatsApp at 9237046977.
The service promises query resolution within 24 hours and is being integrated with an AI chatbot, marking a key milestone toward a contact-less, transparent, and safer Odisha.
