Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of a serving police officer who accepted a bribe to release a seized mobile phone.
Chittaranjan Sahoo, Ex-ASI of Police, Industrial Police Station, Nisha, Anugola, and presently posted as ASI at the SDPO Office, Palalahada, Anugola, was today sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Anugola. He was immediately sent to jail custody to serve the sentence.
According to the Vigilance probe, Sahoo had demanded and accepted ₹15,000 as bribe from a complainant in exchange for the release of his mobile phone. The case was registered under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following a thorough investigation, a charge sheet was submitted, leading to today’s conviction.
Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Chittaranjan Sahoo from government service following his conviction.
