In a significant display of cooperative governance, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a closed-door meeting with senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra at the Circuit House in Balangir on Friday. The discussion focused on critical development priorities for the district.
The meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, took place during the Chief Minister’s official tour. Mishra, a former minister, arrived with supporters and engaged in a pre-scheduled interaction with the Chief Minister.
Key Development Issues Raised
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mishra described the discussion as constructive and raised several pressing concerns related to infrastructure and public welfare.
Major proposals included:
- Construction of a barrage on the Sonagad river at Deogaon
- Development of the Sikuan barrage
- Building bridges at Deogaon and Jarasingha
Focus on Education and Industrial Revival
Mishra also highlighted long-pending issues in the education sector, including:
- Proposal to establish a university in Balangir instead of an agricultural college
- Need for adequate teaching and non-teaching staff at Rajendra University
In addition, he stressed the importance of reviving the Deogaon Sugar Mill to boost local employment and economic activity.
Civic Concerns and Rehabilitation Issues
The senior leader drew attention to several civic and social challenges affecting the district, such as:
- Issues at the Women’s College
- Rehabilitation concerns of displaced families from the Lower Suktel project
- Improvement of the Laxmijor drainage system
- Acute drinking water shortage in Balangir
He urged the state government to take timely and effective measures to address these concerns.
