Novak Djokovic’s remarkable dominance in Beijing continues after he overcame top seed Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to reach the China Open semifinals with a perfect 32-0 record at the event.
The Serbian star, a six-time champion in the Chinese capital, will now face Daniil Medvedev in a high-stakes ATP 500 clash on Monday evening.
Medvedev secured his place with a controlled 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Francisco Cerundolo. The Russian, who has reached the semifinals on every visit to the China Open but is still seeking his first title there, brings a strong recent run into the matchup. Their contest pits two former world No. 1s against each other on the hard courts of the National Tennis Center.
In the other semifinal, Alex de Minaur recovered from a slow start to defeat Andrey Rublev 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Australian fifth seed will meet Hubert Hurkacz, who advanced with a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory over Karen Khachanov. De Minaur leads their head-to-head and has already reached four semifinals this season, while Hurkacz continues a solid campaign that includes his 250th career tour-level win.
The China Open, running from 30 September to 6 October 2026, has produced a compelling final four.
Djokovic’s quest for another Beijing title now hinges on navigating Medvedev, while the de Minaur-Hurkacz winner will await the survivor in the championship match.
Both semifinals are scheduled for Monday, with the Australian-Pole matchup earlier in the day and the Djokovic-Medvedev showdown under the lights.
