Change of Baton: BSF IG Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma takes over command of Ftr Hq (Spl Ops) BSF Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma, IG BSF has taken over the charge from Shri Satish Chandra Budakoti, IG as Comdr of Ftr HQ (Spl Ops) BSF Odisha which overseas anti-Naxal operations in the districts of Koraput and Malkangiri.

BSF has been deployed in both districts since 2010 and are highly Naxal affected. Satish Chandra Budakoti, the outgoing IG, played a crucial role in containing Maoist menace and bringing normalcy in both the districts. The high point of his tenure as IG has been establishment of new COBs in Swabhiman Anchal which resulted into total domination of SFs in the region which used to be a stronghold of Maoists. He facilitated the developments works initiated by state Govt in far flung areas of BSF deployment. The successful completion of Panchayat election 2022 is the testimony to it. He also played important role in tackling Naxalism in Tulasi Dongri reserve forest area touching Chhattisgarh border. The efforts put in received appreciation from all quarters.

Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma, IG is a highly professional BSF cadre officer of 1986 batch having in-depth knowledge and experience of fighting militancy in Kashmir. He served at various locations, held important appointments and brought laurels to the force. The Officer was awarded Prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service in the year 2018. Besides this, he has 10 DG’s CR and 03 Secretary Commendation Rolls to his credit which itself speaks of his high professional acumen and yeomen service to the BSF in particular and nation in general.

After taking over the responsibility, he said that operations against the Red Rebels would be intensified in close co-ordination with Odisha Police and state administration. He added that emphasis would be on the facilitation of development projects as envisaged by state Govt in the remotest of areas of Koraput and Malkangiri districts. New challenges would be addressed with concerted efforts of all stakeholders to bring peace, development and progress at the earliest.
