CBI registers cases against Army officers involved in recruitment scam

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked five Lt Colonel-ranked officers, a Major and a Lieutenant and others for corruption in recruitment in the Indian Army.

The appointments were made through Service Selection Board (SSB) centres.

The central probe agency said they were involved in bribery and irregularities in recruitment of officers and other ranks through Service Selection Board (SSB).

The CBI has conducted raids across 13 cities including the Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment. It raided premises at Kapurthala, Bhatinda, Delhi, Kaithal, Palwal, Lucknow, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, Guwahati, Jorhat and Chirangon.

Officials said Lt Col MCSNA Bhagwan of the Army Air Defence Corps is the alleged mastermind of the recruitment racket.

The CBI spokesperson R C Joshi said the investigative officials had recovered several incriminating documents during the searches. The papers are being scrutinized. The CBI swung into action after Brigadier (Vigilance) V K Purohit filed a complaint in this connection.
