Rourkela witnessed high drama late Friday night as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Railway Protection Force (RPF) Inspector Kamalesh Samadar on corruption charges following simultaneous raids at his residence and office.
Around 9 p.m., a CBI team stormed Samadar’s government quarters near Chhota Park in the Railway Colony and his office at Rourkela Railway Station. Officers searched documents and records for several hours. Another team raided the home of a supplier allegedly linked to the inspector.
Sources said the operation followed complaints that money was being extorted to suppress cases of illegal vending and other irregularities inside the station premises. After extensive searches, the CBI took Samadar into custody.
Officials confirmed that the arrest forms part of a broader investigation into corruption within railway operations. The agency is examining financial transactions and procurement records to trace the flow of money and identify other potential links.
The CBI has not yet released a formal statement on the charges. However, the arrest signals a widening probe into misconduct among railway personnel. Investigations continue to determine the full extent of the alleged extortion network.
