In a landmark move that promises to change countless lives, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of PGIMER and Capital Hospital has officially received its registration certificate as an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Clinic (Level-1).

For thousands of couples across Odisha who have silently battled infertility, this is more than just paperwork — it is the beginning of a new chapter filled with realistic hope.

Assisted Reproductive Technology, or ART, is the modern medical umbrella that includes advanced procedures such as IVF, ICSI, IUI and other fertility treatments. Until now, most such services were available only in expensive private clinics, putting them beyond the reach of ordinary families. With Capital Hospital’s new Level-1 ART Clinic, high-quality, regulated fertility care will now be accessible at affordable government rates.

The registration has been granted under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 and will remain valid for five full years — until 27 April 2031.

Health officials say the clinic will not only deliver cutting-edge reproductive services but will also bring much-needed transparency, quality control and accountability to ART procedures in the state. Couples who have been dreaming of parenthood for years can now walk into a trusted government facility instead of travelling far or spending lakhs in private hospitals.

Speaking on the development, senior health administrators described the registration as “a giant leap towards strengthening Odisha’s public health system.” The clinic is expected to reduce the emotional and financial burden on infertile couples while ensuring ethical practices and strict adherence to national guidelines.

This development is being hailed as one of the most patient-friendly initiatives in recent years. By making advanced fertility treatment available under one roof at Capital Hospital, the state government has sent a clear message: no family should be left behind in the journey to parenthood simply because of cost.

With this registration, Bhubaneswar’s Capital Hospital has positioned itself as a true centre of excellence in women’s healthcare, turning dreams into reality for countless Odisha families.
