With the college student union elections scheduled for October 15, the Odisha Police administration has put law enforcement agencies on high alert across the state.
Director General of Police (DGP) Binaytosh Mishra chaired a high-level review meeting via video conferencing today from his camp office in Bhubaneswar to assess law and order readiness and streamline security measures.
During the conference, DGP Mishra directed all District Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range IGs/DIGs to take proactive, preventive steps rather than merely reacting to incidents after they occur.
Emphasizing the need for zero tolerance toward campus unrest, the DGP urged officials to maintain continuous communication with college authorities, closely monitor potential flashpoints, and intervene immediately to nip any tension in the bud.
Key Directives Issued by the DGP:
- Preventive Surveillance: Keep a strict vigil on sensitive zones and potential troublemakers on and off campus.
- Proportional Deployment: Assess local vulnerability levels to deploy adequate police personnel in advance.
- Strict Legal Action: Treat any election-related dispute or provocation with maximum seriousness and initiate immediate legal action.
- Post-Poll Vigilance: Ensure high security following the announcement of results to prevent post-election retaliation or violence.
The strategic meeting was attended by senior police leaders, including Director (Intelligence) R.P. Koche, Additional Director General of Police (SAP) Rajesh Kumar, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar-Kataka) Narasingha Bhol, alongside Range IGs, DIGs, and SPs from every district.
With strict guidelines now in place, the police force is geared up to ensure a smooth, transparent, and violence-free election process across colleges in the state.
