Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati and First Lady Jayashree visited the holy town of Sambalpur on Saturday to pay homage at the revered Maa Samaleswari Temple on the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya.
The dignitaries participated in special rituals and sought blessings from the deity, praying for the welfare, peace, and overall prosperity of the people of Odisha.
Mahalaya holds deep religious significance at Maa Samaleswari Temple—the premier spiritual seat of Western Odisha. On this occasion, the presiding deity is adorned in the sacred Dhabalamukhi Besha (the white-faced appearance). Thousands of devotees from across the region gathered at the temple complex to witness this rare, grand attiring of the Goddess, creating an atmosphere charged with devotion and fervor.
Prior to their temple visit, the Governor and the First Lady inspected the engineering marvel of the region, the Hirakud Dam. Standing atop the structure, Governor Kambhampati surveyed the expansive reservoir built across the Mahanadi River, appreciating the scale and continuing vital contribution of the historic dam to the state’s agriculture, flood management, and power generation.
