The debate over child rights protection has taken a political turn in Odisha. On Monday, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) submitted a formal complaint to the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) against BJP leader Prabhat Biswal.
The complaint alleges that Biswal involved children in political rallies during his induction into the BJP, making them carry party flags, placards, and banners. BJD representatives met the Commission’s chairperson and demanded notices to be issued to the Chief Minister, the state BJP president, and Biswal himself, urging a thorough investigation.
The ruling party also requested the Commission to take necessary steps to safeguard children’s rights and prevent their use in political events. The issue has sparked debate in political circles, with critics arguing that children should never be drawn into partisan activities.
