Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke announced on Thursday evening that he and fellow activists are fully prepared for detention or arrest by the Delhi Police as they press ahead with their planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10.
Addressing a press conference in the capital alongside party office-bearers Sourav Das, Ratna Singh, and Afreen Nawaz, Dipke reiterated demands for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
”Jantar Mantar Belongs to the People of India”
Holding a copy of the Constitution of India, Dipke highlighted the success of Thursday’s ‘People’s Tribunal’ in Bengaluru—which drew key figures including actor Prakash Raj, writer Devanuru Mahadeva, and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee—and questioned heavy police restrictions in the national capital.
”If it is possible to have protests in Bengaluru and Mumbai, why not in Delhi? Is it the personal property of Amit Shah? Jantar Mantar belongs to the people of India. It is a designated protest site. The more they suppress the voices of people, the angrier they get,” Dipke stated.
Non-Violent Push Against Electoral Roll Revisions
Labeling the SIR exercise as the “biggest scam in the country” after discovering instances of living voters marked as deceased, Dipke pledged that the CJP-led movement would adhere strictly to non-violent resistance despite pre-emptive detentions of youth organizers in multiple states.
”We are not afraid of being imprisoned or detained. We will walk the path of Gandhi’s non-violence,” he affirmed, adding that specific tactical details for the October 10 Jantar Mantar gathering would remain a surprise.
The CJP’s escalation coincides with broader political unrest in New Delhi, where Opposition parliamentarians have maintained continuous demonstrations demanding structural revisions to the election oversight process.
