Bhubaneswar: Passengers will not have to wait for hours to reach Berhampur from the State Capital. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is going to start direct flight to Brahampur very soon.
The service will start from this month. Bhubaneswar will connect to Rangeilunda airstrip in Berhampur. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the service through video conferencing. Preparations are going on war footing. Commerce and Transport Secretary Usha Padhi visited the airstrip and reviewed the work.
She informed that the government has plan for non-scheduled 9-seated flights in the first phase. Initially, there will be two flights will provide service in a week. Later, it may be expande in view of needs of the people, said Padhi.
On the other hand, Odisha Development Forum has welcomed the decision of the state government and demanded for scheduled flights. The forum demanded to change the name of the airstrip. It said the airstrip should renamed after some great personalities.
