Bangladesh’s National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led Bangladesh Cricket Board following an inquiry into the October 2025 elections.
The investigation revealed vote-rigging, abuse of authority, and procedural irregularities.
Former captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed interim chief of an 11-member ad-hoc committee tasked with running daily operations and conducting fresh elections within 90 days. His appointment marks a generational shift, making him the youngest to lead the board in this capacity.
The decision comes amid months of unrest, including multiple director resignations and criticism over Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in India. The controversy, linked to protests over Mustafizur Rahaman’s IPL removal, damaged Bulbul’s standing and intensified calls for leadership change.
A five-member panel led by former justice AKM Asaduzzaman reported coercion and manipulation during the elections, including unilateral councillor nominations and questionable e-voting practices. The NSC shared these findings with the ICC and assured that transparent elections will be held within three months.
While ICC rules discourage government interference, the defined election schedule is expected to avert sanctions. Tamim Iqbal’s leadership is seen as an effort to restore credibility and stability in Bangladesh cricket.
