On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, preparations for the world-renowned Rath Yatra officially commenced in Puri with traditional rituals and ceremonies.
The Rath Katha Anukula ritual, held in Srikhetra, marked the formal beginning of chariot construction for the annual festival. Following the ceremonial arrival of the Agyan Mala (garlands symbolising divine permission), the sacred process of building the chariots began on the Grand Road (Bada Danda), starting with the chariot of Lord Balabhadra.
Chandan Yatra and Chapa Khela Preparations Underway
Alongside Rath Yatra preparations, arrangements for the 21-day-long Chandan Yatra are nearing completion. As part of the festivities, the deities of Lord Jagannath will participate in the traditional Chapa Khela (boating festival) at Narendra Pushkarini.
Servitors have been finalising decorative elements for the boats, including intricate designs and symbolic features. Officials confirmed that preparations are almost complete, ensuring smooth conduct of the rituals.
CM Mohan Majhi Performs ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ in Cuttack
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the Akhi Muthi Anukula ritual in Cuttack, symbolising the ceremonial beginning of the agricultural season.
The event was held at the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) as part of the Krushak Divas celebrations. The ritual reflects Odisha’s agrarian roots, where farmers begin sowing seeds seeking blessings for a prosperous harvest.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, and several public representatives participated in the ceremony.
Government Initiatives Announced for Farmers
During the event, the Chief Minister also:
- Released financial assistance under the CM Kisan Yojana
- Launched the ‘Seed on Wheels’ initiative to improve access to quality seeds for farmers
These initiatives aim to support agricultural productivity and strengthen rural livelihoods across the state.
