England Defeat India by 27 Runs in Thrilling 3rd ODI at Lord’s | Clinch Series 2-1

747 runs, record partnerships, and a nail-biting chase — Duckett’s explosive ton and Curran’s death bowling trump Rohit’s heroics in a classic at the Home of Cricket.

In a breathtaking display of modern white-ball cricket, England and India lit up Lord’s with a staggering 747 runs on Sunday, producing one of the most entertaining ODIs in recent memory.

The hosts ultimately prevailed by 27 runs in the series decider, claiming a hard-fought 2-1 victory and sending the home crowd into raptures.

England got off to a blistering start after winning the toss and electing to bat. Openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell forged a record-breaking 192-run partnership for the first wicket, setting an aggressive tone. Duckett led the charge with a sensational 141 off just 123 balls, his fourth ODI century, while Bethell fell agonisingly short of his own ton on 91. Joe Root, the evergreen anchor, remained unbeaten on 74, and Jos Buttler provided a explosive finish with a blistering 41 off only 13 deliveries. The total of 387 for 3 in 50 overs not only tested India’s bowlers but also etched new records at the historic venue — including England’s highest ODI score against India at Lord’s.

India’s bowling attack struggled to contain the onslaught. Prasidh Krishna emerged as the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 69, while Axar Patel delivered a disciplined spell to stem the flow of runs.

The chase was always going to be daunting, but India began positively. Skipper Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma forged a solid 147-run opening stand. Rohit, in vintage form, smashed a magnificent 138 off 110 balls, reminding everyone of his big-match pedigree. Virat Kohli joined the party, adding 113 crucial runs with Rohit and scoring a composed 74 of his own.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Sam Curran entered the attack. The all-rounder produced a match-winning spell, claiming four wickets including the vital scalp of Kohli. With both Rohit and Kohli back in the pavilion, India’s middle order couldn’t find the necessary acceleration. The visitors finished at 360 for 7, falling 27 runs short in a valiant effort.

This victory marks a significant achievement for England under Harry Brook’s leadership, especially after India had taken the first game convincingly. The series showcased the best of limited-overs cricket — aggressive batting, skilful bowling under pressure, and unforgettable moments at the iconic Lord’s ground.

Player of the Match: Ben Duckett for his record-breaking 141. The result brings the curtain down on the 2026 ODI leg of India’s tour of England, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming T20I series.
