An ordinary journey turned into a tense security operation on Wednesday when an Air India flight traveling from Frankfurt to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Jaipur.
The dramatic diversion unfolded after the pilot reportedly squawked an emergency code reserved for unlawful interference, sending security agencies into immediate high alert.
The flight, designated as AI-2030, landed safely at Jaipur International Airport at 9:35 AM. Authorities swiftly moved the aircraft to a designated isolation bay for comprehensive security checks as standard operating procedures kicked into gear.
The Sequence of Events
The incident began around 9:00 AM when the Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) picked up a brief emergency signal from the aircraft lasting just a few seconds. According to reports, the pilot activated Squawk 7500—the universally recognised transponder code used by aviators to discreetly signal a hijacking or unlawful interference to ground controllers without speaking aloud.
Recognising the severity of the alert, the Delhi airport’s war room coordinated a precautionary diversion around 9:10 AM, directing the flight toward Jaipur. By 9:45 AM, the plane was safely secured in the isolation bay, where security personnel and law enforcement agencies initiated rigorous inspections.
Current Status and Investigation
Initial technical checks and preliminary sweeps have indicated that aircraft operations are normal. However, the exact circumstances that triggered the activation of the Squawk 7500 code remain under active investigation by relevant security and aviation authorities. Passengers and crew are cooperating with officials as the probe continues to piece together what happened in the cockpit.
