Odisha has witnessed heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district recording the highest rainfall at 13 cm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings across several districts as a low‑pressure system forms over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.
According to the IMD, rainfall activity will intensify from August 13 onwards, with heavy to very heavy showers expected in many parts of the state. The regional weather office has cautioned that rising water levels in rivers across northern Odisha could pose risks of flooding.
On Tuesday, a yellow warning was issued statewide, with alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in multiple districts. For August 13, three districts are under orange warning, while 27 districts remain under yellow warning. On August 14, four districts — Baragada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundaragada — will face orange warning, while 19 districts are under yellow warning.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from August 11 to 14, citing strong winds of 35–55 kmph and rough sea conditions. Coastal districts reported rainfall ranging between 3 cm and 13 cm during the last 24 hours.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow safety advisories as Odisha braces for heavy rainfall and strong winds in the coming days.
