Senior leader Prabhat Biswal has formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ending months of speculation about his political future.
Accompanied by thousands of supporters in a grand procession, Biswal arrived at the state BJP headquarters, where he was welcomed into the party fold.
The joining ceremony turned into a major show of strength, with Biswal’s supporters marching through the city before reaching the party office. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior BJP leaders were present at the event, underscoring the significance of Biswal’s entry. Majhi draped the party’s uttariya around Biswal, symbolically inducting him into the saffron camp.
Biswal’s move is seen as a strategic boost for the BJP in Odisha, particularly in the run‑up to upcoming political battles. His long association with grassroots politics and his ability to mobilise large crowds are expected to strengthen the party’s organisational base.
The event also marked the culmination of weeks of speculation, with Biswal’s supporters repeatedly hinting at his shift. His formal induction signals a new chapter in Odisha’s political landscape, where the BJP continues to expand its influence.
Party insiders described the joining as a “festival of unity,” highlighting the enthusiasm among cadres. Observers believe Biswal’s entry could reshape local equations and add momentum to BJP’s campaign machinery in the state.
