The Gujarat High Court upheld the sentences of all convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case. The court confirmed the death sentences of 38 individuals and maintained life imprisonment for 11 others.

The bench also directed compensation of ₹10 lakh to the families of the 56 deceased and ₹1 lakh to more than 200 injured victims. The judgment reinforces accountability in one of India’s deadliest terror attacks.

On July 26, 2008, 21 coordinated bomb blasts struck 20 locations across Ahmedabad within 70 minutes, killing 56 people and injuring over 200. The Islamic extremist group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) claimed responsibility for the attack, which triggered widespread panic across the city.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) continues its probe into the November 2025 Red Fort car bomb blast in Delhi. The agency filed a supplementary charge sheet against Zamir Ahmed Ahangar and Tufail Ahmed Bhat, arrested in February 2026, for allegedly collecting arms and ammunition. Both are linked to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an offshoot of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.

The Red Fort blast killed 11 people and injured several others. The NIA has already filed a main charge sheet against 10 accused, with further hearings scheduled for July 13.
