In a major push to deliver swift justice to victims of cyber financial frauds, the Odisha Police today launched the innovative ‘e-Zero FIR’ system.
The new digital mechanism promises quicker complaint registration, faster investigations, and a higher chance of recovering cheated money.
Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania inaugurated the system at the State Police Headquarters here. The move comes at a time when online scams are rising sharply across the state.
How the e-Zero FIR System Works
The system integrates the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) with the National Cyber Helpline 1930 and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
Here’s what changes for victims:
- When a cyber financial fraud complaint of ₹10 lakh or more is registered on the 1930 helpline, an e-Zero FIR request is automatically generated in CCTNS.
- The request is instantly routed to the Cyber Police Station.
- After a quick preliminary check, the Cyber Police Station can register a regular FIR and begin investigation immediately.
- Cases can also be transferred to the concerned police station, linked with existing cases, or closed if they do not meet the criteria.
This automation removes delays in information flow between the helpline and police stations. Victims can now track the progress of their cases more easily and transparently.
DGP’s Message to the Public
Speaking at the launch, DGP Khurania said, “Odisha Police is committed to using modern technology to the fullest to provide citizens with prompt, transparent, and citizen-centric police services.”He appealed to the public: “If you become a victim of cyber financial fraud, do not delay. Report immediately on 1930. The sooner you report, the faster we can act — and the better your chances of recovering the lost money.”The DGP praised the SCRB, Crime Branch, and all officers and staff involved in developing and implementing the system.
A Step Towards Modern Policing
The launch of the e-Zero FIR system marks another major step in Odisha Police’s journey toward technology-driven, efficient, and people-friendly policing. It is expected to significantly strengthen the fight against cyber crimes and ensure faster delivery of justice to victims.
