Jharsuguda POCSO Court sentenced Ajay Singh to 20 years in prison for raping a six-year-old girl in Banharpali police station area in 2025.
The verdict delivered on Saturday brought relief to the victim’s family and sent a strong message against crimes targeting minors.
The court found Singh guilty of sexually assaulting his neighbour’s daughter. The incident shocked the locality and triggered widespread outrage. Police swiftly investigated the case, collected evidence, and filed charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
During the trial, prosecutors presented medical reports and witness testimonies that confirmed Singh’s involvement. The judge ruled that the crime was heinous and warranted strict punishment. Along with the 20-year sentence, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide ₹8 lakh compensation to the victim for rehabilitation.
