Harmanpreet Kaur reached a historic milestone by becoming the first cricketer, male or female, to play 200 T20 Internationals during India’s Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against South Africa.
The Indian captain received a special commemorative cap and jersey from coach Amol Muzumdar and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana before the match.
Since her debut in 2009, Harmanpreet has built one of the most decorated careers in world cricket. She has scored 4,123 runs, including one century and 17 fifties, and taken 32 wickets. She has led India in 145 T20Is and crossed 200 matches as captain across formats, ranking second only to Charlotte Edwards in women’s cricket history.
Her achievement surpasses New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, who has played 184 T20Is, and Ireland’s Paul Stirling, who has featured in 163. Harmanpreet’s consistency and longevity underline her influence on the sport. She has participated in every edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup since 2009, joining an elite group of seven players to achieve that feat.
Teammates and rivals celebrated her landmark moment. South Africa’s Chloe Tryon praised her leadership, while India’s bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi described her as a “global role model.” Harmanpreet’s journey from Moga, Punjab, to becoming a global icon mirrors the rise of women’s cricket in India.
Her 200th T20I appearance stands as a symbol of endurance, excellence, and inspiration for future generations.
